LCPS's five high schools awarded diplomas to 567 seniors in four days of commencements ceremonies that were -- considering the circumstances -- remarkably similar to their graduation exercises of years past. True, the 2020 graduating classes in most cases were segmented into smaller groups, the seating was widely spaced and some of the speeches were pre-recorded; but graduates still heard inspiring words, heard their names called and walked across the stage to receive their diplomas before proud family. Unfortunately, everyone who wanted to see their favorite students attain this milestone was not able to do so because of restrictions related to coronavirus. LCPS and the high schools have worked hard to allay that disappointment by creating a virtual auditorium for commencements. Celebrate the Class of 2020 Announcements Comments (-1) On Facebook On Twitter Tweets by lcpsnc District News School to reopen with virtual instruction for nine weeks The Lenoir County Board of Education decided Monday night that all students will begin the 2020-2021 school year as remote learners and, after the first nine weeks, the district’s youngest students could transition to in-person instruction provided certain public health metrics are met. Comments (-1) LCPS names 2020-2021 Teacher and Principal of the Year Teacher of the Year Ryan Gardner, who chairs the Science Department at South Lenoir High School, and Principal of the Year Lorene Bell, who has led La Grange Elementary since 2016, have more than 50 years’ experience with LCPS and have touched the lives of thousands of young people.
